Overview
: If you’re moving to Manhattan, don’t bring a car.  Dumb idea.  Parking on the street is annoying and unreliable.  Parking garages can cost $300 to $1200 a month. Yes, way.  Use the subway.
.

Forms:  If you insist on bringing a car, we will issue a silent protest and no longer call you our Best Friend.  However, we’ll provide you with some links to save you a lot of legwork:

Driver’s license: form and instructions.
Auto registration:

Auto insurance:  The minimum state insurance standard for NY are 25/50/10.  What does that mean?

Yes, most insurance policies and state standards are written in a funny code with slash marks. This will help you translate (all numbers are in thousands):

Funny code definitions:
*First number: Coverage for "bodily injury liability" (someone else’s injury) per person injured in an accident.
*Second number: Coverage for "bodily injury liability" per accident.
*Third number: Coverage for all property damage per accident.

For more information on auto insurance, see page 152 of our book.
