Overview:

NY City has three major airports, LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark (in New Jersey).

LaGuardia:  The cheapest way to get to LaGuardia is the M60 bus for $2.00. You can catch the bus at 125th street in Harlem on the east side or near Columbia University on the West side.  Here's a bus map.  A cab ride will cost you about $25, after bridge toll, tip and fascinating conversation.

JFK:  You can get to
JFK on the 7 line ($2.00) with a connecting bus, but give yourself plenty of time.  When the subway stops every 30 seconds, it takes a while to get somewhere.  Here's the subway map

Newark:  Getting to
Newark is probably the most difficult task.  You can take the "AirTrain" from NY Penn Station to the airport for about $12 one-way.  A cab will likely run you over $35.
